To be happy is to feel comfortable in one’s SKIN
We breathe through it. It protects us. It is an expression of our well-being. It is the most important organ of our body. Our skin is a sensory organ that absorbs and eliminates stresses and toxins that are in our body. As a filter organ, our skin not only works from the inside out, but also performs an important task in the transport of substances from the outside to the inside.
Therefore, all products and substances that come into contact with our skin should be carefully checked for their ingredients.
Natural cosmetics
Natural cosmetics are products made from natural raw materials of plant, animal and mineral origin. Only physical, microbiological or enzymatic methods are used for the extraction and further processing of these natural substances. Chemical extraction or processing steps are not permitted. The only exceptions to this are preservatives (these may also be used in nature-identical quality, i.e. they may be produced by chemical processes) and emulsifiers or surfactants (may simply be chemically processed).
Animal testing has been banned for ingredients in cosmetic products since March 2013.
Organic cosmetics
The natural ingredients in organic cosmetics are divided into natural substances of agricultural origin (plant and animal products) and those of non-agricultural origin (mineral raw materials and water).
Plant and animal ingredients of agricultural origin, must comply at least 95% with the provisions on organic production (Regulation (EC) No 834/2007). In addition, there must be a minimum organic content in relation to the final product.
Minimum organic content in % related to the finished product
- Perfume/Eau de Parfum/Eau de Toilette 60%
- Oils/water-free care products 90%
- Deodorant, hair treatment, soaps 20%
- Emulsions for skin care (W/Oil) 30%
Furthermore, rules have been laid down as to what proportion of aqueous mixtures such as distillates, extracts, hydrolates or even re-diluted concentrates may be used to calculate the organic content. Only the portions actually obtained from plants are to be included in the organic portion.
This is intended to counteract unjustified organic pricing, for example in the case of an aqueous solution with a “homeopathic” quantity of a raw material in organic quality.
Only through official certification may a product be declared as organic cosmetics.
Organic cosmetics regulated in the EU Quality Regulations Implementation Act (EU-QuaDG), Federal Law Gazette I No. 130/2015 and the corresponding directive, which is valid since 1.12.2017 and replaces the Codex Chapter A8 Section 6 Organic Cosmetics.
Preservation – which substances are allowed
In natural and organic cosmetics, the selection of permitted preservatives is limited to those approved preservatives that also occur in nature. For economic reasons, these are usually also produced synthetically and are therefore referred to as “nature identic substances”.
For list see in: DIRECTIVE Agricultural products from organic production and derived products (RL Biological Production) RL_0003_3 valid from 01.07.2018.
The most natural pure plant preservatives are:
Medicinal plant extracts, organic alcohol and essential oils.
ONLY these are used in ACHALA products.
