Sustainability – it all depends on your viewpoint

The term sustainability describes a principle of thought that guides responsible action on an economic, ecological and social level when dealing with resources. At the heart of sustainable thinking is a harmonious coexistence of people and nature. Sustainability is often equated with the concept of “future-proofing”. In this context, sustainability refers primarily to the use of resources in a way that preserves the foundations of life associated with nature for future generations.

The economic development of the last centuries, and especially the industrial revolution, brought about a change that was and is increasingly associated with the exploitation of resources. To this day, conventional economic measures and modern human lifestyles are accompanied by the destruction of entire ecosystems as well as a significant reduction in biodiversity.

Ecological sustainability describes the goal of preserving nature and the environment for future generations. This includes the preservation of biodiversity, climate protection, the maintenance of cultural and landscape areas in their original form and, in general, a careful treatment of the natural environment.

Living sustainably – how does that work?

Living sustainably starts with the awareness and the questioning of one’s own actions.

Have you ever thought about when buying a product, what it takes, from the production to the finished product and how much waste is produced during and after the purchase?

Think about it as it was in your own garden, when the pests eat away the laboriously planted, could it be that the natural enemy no longer has a suitable habitat?

Learn again to ask WHY! Is all that necessary as it goes?

Unfortunately, capitalism is not yet ready to pass on the costs for the destruction of the environment and nature to the respective products. This would introduce a whole new way of thinking about the product range. Today’s cheap products would become much more expensive, but organic products would finally get their true value.

Perceiving, holistic thinking and acting is a way to improve today’s situation.
